Mack Abernathy: From the Rodeo Arena to the Billboard Charts
Native Texan singer-songwriter Mack Abernathy is the definition of a true independent country artist. Long before he was touring the world or writing songs that caught the eye of the Wall Street Journal, Mack was cutting his teeth in a completely different kind of arena. As a former collegiate and Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) member, the grit, resilience, and independent thinking required of a rodeo cowboy seamlessly transitioned into his musical career.
Under the guidance of Hall of Fame steel guitar legend Tom Brumley (of Buck Owens and the Buckaroos fame), Mack headed to Nashville to record his landmark album, Different Situations, with producer Vic Clay. Refusing to play it safe, Mack released a cover of Floyd Tillman’s "Slippin' Around" as his first single—landing him straight on the Billboard Charts. The album's upbeat title track quickly followed suit, earning another Billboard Chart spot, while its music video won the prestigious Lone Star Award at the Houston International Film Festival and received heavy rotation on CMT and TNN.
